BREED STANDARDS

GOLDENS

Goldens have been the second most popular breed in the United States for over a decade now. Their personalities, appearance and temperament are qualities that instill this popularity.

Breed standards for goldens are listed below:

  • Height = males 23 to 24 inches
  • Height = females 21 to 22 inches tall
  • Weight = male = 65 - 75 lbs
  • Weight = female = 55 - 65 lbs
  • Personality: pleasant, affable and social
  • Trainability: very easy to train
  • Generally good with other pets
  • Not generally dog-aggressive

Weekly grooming is necessary. Shedding occurs year-round. Examine the toenails and trim accordingly.

Goldens have a tendency to become overweight which may be a factor to hip problems. Proper diet and daily exercise are excellent preventions. They also make excellent jogging companions.

They need room but can generally do well in apartments with proper exercise. Outdoors, they require, at minimum, an average sized, enclosed yard with room to romp. They adjust to climate changes very rapidly and easily. Remember, they love the water (keep your pool covered?)!
